plug tunin' in brooklyn
Brooklyn, NY
April 29th, 2010
Brooklyn Bodega, producers of the 6th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival (BHF), is excited to announce this year's headliner - De La Soul.
Since 1989, De La Soul (Pos, Dave and Mase) have been a cornerstone of Hip-Hop music and culture. From the groundbreaking album "3 Feet High and Rising" to "Grind Date" De La is simply one of the best to ever do it.
"To be honest, we have been trying to get De La Soul to headline the Festival since we first came up with the idea in 2005. On many levels they are the perfect flag bearers for our mission to use Hip-Hop as an agent of change. For over 20 years they have traveled the world inspiring MC's, producers, DJ's and fans alike. I can think of no better artist to usher the Festival into its new home in Brooklyn Bridge Park." - Wes Jackson, Executive Director, The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival
In past years, the Festival has featured headliners such as Brand Nubian (2005), Big Daddy Kane (2006), Ghostface Killah (2007), KRS-ONE (2008) and Pharoahe Monch (2009). This year, De La Soul will be the anchor of the six-day-long Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, performing on Saturday, July 10th alongside a variety of Old School, New School, Funk, Soul, local and International artists on the DUMBO waterfront.

Spring Fling '10

Lots of drinking, drinking... and drinking equals one hell of a weekend. Friday night I got to UPENN with my friends and we were ready to see KID CUDI for the UPENN Spring Fling concert. It featured Shwayze and Snoop Dog. Now let me just add, that I doubted Snoop because he IS getting old. But, that mother'fcka knows how to put on a performance!! He had the whole audience live with him. Everybody wanted to see Cudder (he was the 2nd act, first being shwayze). And everyone loved Cud. But man, I love Scottay.. But Snoop def. had the livest performance. Mostly being that Cudi is better heard in a smaller arena. He did an amazing job, don't get me wrong. He even played a snippet of one of his new songs from his new album. That was the beeeezneez! And after his performance.. I was so willing to just dip out of the concert.. (Mind you it was pouring out, we were outside, and it was freezing) I got soaked and I wasn't prepared to be as soaked as I was. But I'm so glad my boyfriend said we should stay because he loves snoop. And guess what? He was right for staying. Snoop get respects to Pac and Biggie and played their famous songs and snoop played his CLASSIC SNOOP SONGS! Trust me. It was amazing! I forgot how fuckin' gangster and ill snoop was. In all, his performance made the whole crowd dance with him, throw their hands in the air, and sing along to his old hits. An amazing concert. The after parties were filled with me drinking.. drinking.. dancing....eatting.. and drinking some more! I hope you guys have a great Sunday. Enjoy today! Peace!

I'm not really sure why I'm feeling this way. But I think it has a lot to do with me being awfully sick. Its not only an epiphany, which i'm currently having, but also this empowering feeling. I feel like I can make a decision and be straight with it. I'm fed up and tired of the bullshit. I'm tired of being unappreciated of. And its just dawning on me that I am a very good sister, friend, girlfriend, daughter. I give and I love 100%. And I feel sorry for anyone who will take that for granted. Its more like, I know that if i'm not there for you anymore, you will soon realize you lost someone of great value. And I don't usual like to talk highly of myself (actually, I've yet to do that until now). But, I know my worth. I know how I treat others and the respect I give. I have principles, manners, respect, love. Its such a shame honestly.. That there are not that many people like me and some of only a few people that I do know who have the same principles as I. Right now, I have this "Fuck you" attitude towards everyone who has taken advantage of my kindness. Like honestly..? Maybe its my fault for being nice? (But should I really be blaming myself? It is okay for others to walk all over you?) I give no one that permission. And even when I try to get my say, its flipped on me- like i'm the bad person. What motherfucker? Did you just not realize the things I've done for you?..
I'm just saying.. I'm fed up.. really fed up.
New day, same reoccurring problem. People are suppose to change for the better. So learn not to go down the wrong path. Forget not, those who have always been there for you. And always remember to appreciate them. And to show it..
Well tomorrows the beginning of spring fling..
I'll be getting schwasted! So until then.. Have a good weekend

Its really cool to see someone whose accomplished so much for themselves.. still stay so humble and genuine to accept those around them. The major problem of life is learning how to handle the costly interrruptions -- the door that's slammed shut, the plan that got sidetracked, the marriage that failed or that lovely poem that didn't get written because someone knocked on the door.
-Martin Luther King Jr.
My friend told me about this quote and It literally took a toll on me. It changed my life. I think this is the basis of 99 cent dreams. We want to deter from letting these opportunities get missed or just letting go of something that CAN be worked out. Everything is possible. It just takes a lot of hard work and a dream to fulfill it. I got a dollar a dream!

Street Lights - HD from Spencer Tuckerman on Vimeo.
These are the kind of videos I like as music videos with the incorporation of being creative.
Drake - Over
Drake - Over (Official Video) from Jeezy on Vimeo.
The long awaited video from Drake from his first album, Thank Me Later. I like the visuals of the video, but I usually prefer a video with meaning. I like story lines to a music video that go hand in hand with the lyrics. My favorite part has to be the concept with the girl at the end leaving. I feel like that part stood out the most and it meant the most. "Its far from over" for his career and him doing him, but that also means that people will come and go in his life. I felt like the concept of that was most powerful. The other visuals were cool, maybe a tad too much. But it was very artistic in an abstract way. It was cool. Other than that, I've heard enough of Drake. I'm surprised he's finally dropping his first real album out. I don't think he should have put so much out there because people like me are probably tired of his voice.. Or maybe not. Maybe thats just me. But I don't care for him, he's a great artist. Hopefully his first album will live up to its potential. He has a lot of pressure riding out on him and his music. People will be very critical of his work. But he is definitely a talented artist and he's already making it big WITHOUT an album. So congrats to him.

What is 99 cent dreams?
I started this blog to start up a journey.. an adventure.. of music, artwork, fashion, and my line of 99 cent dreams. We all have this idea of making it 'big' and yet, that dream seems so far away. Its also a hard journey to follow; with it, comes huge responsibilities, major obstacles, and most of your time, heart, and dedication put into this one dream. My line of 99 cent dreams, are the dreams that you know you want to do at a certain moment. Its a spontaneous dream, its thriving in your soul, and pumping within your veins, but only for that moment. Its that opportunity you didn't take up, that chance you missed out on, all because of the daily things life throws at you. Or maybe it just took too much of your time that you couldn't hold onto and had to let go. My 99 cent dreams, I hold onto tightly. I never want to let them go forever.. Because this is what makes me. Everyone seems to have that certain 'niche'. That skill they were blessed with. And yet, they only go with that one thing. I don't want to determine my whole life on ONE thing. Everything that surrounds me, inspires me. It makes up all of those dreams I wish to be. It makes me who I am. So please follow me on this journey. And I hope one day it will inspire you to have that epiphany. That self-realization of who you truly are. Stop worrying about what you have to be when you grow up, stop stressing over having to find out soon because of high school and college. Forget about that. Discover yourself and experience EVERYTHING. Life is not about just knowing one thing, or having ONE major and getting a degree for just that. Yes, it'll help you get a career. But that doesn't make up who you will be. So be you. Live a little, have fun, laugh, and cry. But never forget about those 99 cent dreams.
